Brockport Volunteer Fire Department receives grant for new gear | Community Spirit
Title
Personal protective clothing is critical for the safety of firefighters, and that's why Lawley Insurance and Fireman's Fund Insurance are teaming up to award a $5,000 grant to the Brockport Volunteer Fire Department for new turnout gear to protect firefighters during emergencies.
Turnout gear is the protective, fire-resistant clothing firefighters wear when responding to incidents like fires or major vehicle crashes. It protects them from exposure to chemicals, heat and flames.
With the grant, Brockport will purchase three new sets of turnout gear so all volunteer firefighters will be protected. This equipment consists of bunker pants, coats, hoods and boots.
"Without this gear, our most active volunteers are not able to safely protect our community,” said Fire Chief Scott Smith. “Since we are an all-volunteer organization, it is necessary that all personnel be outfitted with proper equipment so they can respond to every call.”
“We are honored to partner in this donation so the firefighters who volunteer their time for our community have the gear they need to be as safe as possible while doing their job,” said Phil Andolina, a Partner of Lawley Insurance.
