Ogden Police: Bullying not a primary factor in Spencerport student's death | News

Her friends say bullying led to her death, but Ogden Police have wrapped up their investigation into the death of Spencerport teenager, Cameron DeVeronica, and saying bullying wasn’t primary factory.

DeVeronica was 14-years-old when she took her life back in November. Her friends say she was had been bullied.

Ogden Chief of Police Doug Nordquist tells News10NBC police did interview several students and thoroughly went through Cameron DeVeronica’s Facebook page. The chief says bullying is loosely defined. The chief would not say DeVeronica was not being bullied, but he says police determined it didn’t cause the teen to take her own life.

DeVeronica died back in November. A few days after this, her friends told News10NBC they had seen and heard hateful, mean Facebook posts aimed at the 14-year-old. They also said they heard the same thing at school.

The chief says police went through those posts and found nothing of a criminal nature. The chief says there will be no arrests or charges.

DeVeronica’s death will be ruled a suicide and the case is closed.

News10NBC spoke with school district officials late Thursday afternoon and district spokesperson, Lanette Cypher had no specific comment on the police investigation, saying only that the district has been in support of the police. She did say the DeVeronica family asked that their privacy be respected and that the district was not only trying to do that, but also support the students and their families during this difficult time. She says the district has numerous anti-bullying programs in all of its schools.
