Canal View Service Learning Club to hold fundraiser for injured soldier

The Canal View Service Learning Club is hosting a fundraiser for a soldier that was severely injured in Afghanistan.

The fundraiser will be a hoedown from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Friday.

Harlem Wizards come to Brockport

The Harlem Wizards are coming to Brockport. The Harlem Wizards are similiar to the Harlem Globetrotters, both like to entertain the crowd using a variety of basketball tricks and alley oops. 

The Harlem Wizards will be at  the Oliver Middle School Gym on Friday May 17 at 7:00p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children and may be purchased online at www.harlemwizards.com. If not sold out, tickets will be available at the door for $12 for adults and $10 for children. A limited number of floor seats are available for $25(including a meet and greet and photo session with the Wizards prior to the game). The College at Brockport to hold commencement ceremonies this weekend

Brockport graduate Jane Clark, now the dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Maryland, College Park will address students at the College of Brockport undergraduate commencement ceremonies on May 18.

On May 17, Brockport alumnus Lynn Parsons, a historian who wrote a biography of John Quincy Adams and now an Emeritus Professor of History at Brockport, will deliver the graduate address.

"We are incredibly proud that our newest graduates will hear from two of our own during our commencement ceremonies this spring," said Brockport President John R. Halstead, PhD.

Rachel Malone honored as Female Athlete of the Year

Rachel Malone, of Fairport and member of the women's cross country and track and field teams at The College at Brockport,  has been named Brockport Female Athlete of the Year.

The sophomore became the first female runner in school history to earn All-American honors after finishing 34th at the championships with a time of 21:58.3, the fastest time in Brockport hisotry. Malone finished the 2012 season with the top five times in school history, including the fastest mark of 21:19.50 at the Oberlin Invite on October 15.

Malone was named to the first team All-State University of New York Athletic Conference after finishing second at the conference championships. She was later named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region team after finishing fourth at the Atlantic Regional. Malone was the top SUNYAC finisher at the meet.

Zach Ferrara Named Brockport Male Athlete of the Year

Zach Ferrara, of Irondequoit, and member of the men's track and field team at the College at Brockport has been named Brockport Male Athlete of the Year.

Ferrara was crowned national champion at the 2013 indoor track and field championships at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. The senior provided one of the most historic performances in program history. Ferrara cleared a school record height of 5.09 meters (15' 8 ¼") to take top honors at the meet.

Ferrara also captured SUNYAC Championships in both the indoor and outdoor season, setting school records along the way. Ferrara won the indoor pole vault championship for the second consecutive season. The senior's national championship mark also set the SUNYAC record.

Ferrara cleared a Brockport outdoor record of 4.85 meters (15' 11") to win the SUNYAC outdoor title. Ferrara became the first Brockport athlete to win the outdoor pole vault championship since Chris Brhel in 2006.
