Brockport High football coach dies after battling cancer

The Brockport Central School family and community are mourning the loss of long-time teacher and coach, Greg Pelletier, who passed away today following a courageous battle with cancer.

Pelletier was 39 years old and coached the varsity football team through the 2011 season.

Brockport High School is opening its doors tomorrow, February 23 at 10:00am, for students and staff to gather. Counseling support will be available.

"This is a huge loss for our school and community and we are deeply saddened. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Pelletier family," said Garry Stone, Superintendent.

Dual Exhibits Fill Brockport Gallery

The Tower Fine Arts Center Gallery will be home to two simultaneous exhibitions for the next few weeks. One exhibit enhances the theatrical production being performed across the lobby, and the other celebrates paper as art itself, not just a vessel for art to be created upon.

Lucinda Devlin's The Omega Suites and Paper: On and Off the Wall will be on view at the Gallery, 180 Holley Street, from February 24 through March 30, 2012. An opening reception will take place on Tuesday, February 28 from 4 - 6 pm. The title of Devlin's The Omega Suites alludes "to the final letter of the Greek alphabet as a metaphor for the finality of execution."... Read More

Brockport High School "Class Acts" tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for Brockport High School's annual talent show "Class Acts".

The show will take place Saturday March 3 at 7:00pm at the High School Auditorium.

This year's show is set to the them of game shows including "The Price is Right", "Minute to Win It", "$25,000 Pyramid" and "Let's Make a Deal".

The talent show started as a fundraiser by the school's Art Club in 1987.

Brockport AlumniDance Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Concerts

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Brockport AlumniDance, the organization will present REVISITED: A Brockport AlumniDance Showcase on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at 7:30 pm in the Rose L. Strasser Studio in Hartwell Hall, Kenyon Street.

Miss New York returns to Rochester to speak to students at area schools

Pittsford native and Miss New York 2011 Kaitlin Monte will be returning home for the first time after placing second runner up at the Miss America contest held last month. 

Monte will be making stops at area schools to discuss her anti-bullying platform. Since being named Miss New York, Monte has taken on the issue of bullying and is working with State Senator Jeff Klein, of Bronx, to pass new legislation against cyber bullying. Monte is also Executive Director of Project Empower, a non-profit education initiative that she launched this fall to help students end bullying through life and career skill development.

Monte will be Allen Creek Elementary School in Pittsford on Tuesday. On Wednesday, she'll speak to students at Rochester STEM High School and York Central.
